In what has to be the most bizarre over-reaction I have heard in a long time, the Herald reports that a 12-year-old girl was arrested for scrawling on her desk. That is: properly arrested in handcuffs and dragged off to the police station and given eight hours of community service as her sentence.
Wow.
I realise this [...]

The Herald is running this demented campaign at the moment to change the New Zealand flag. Clearly, anyone with a halfway-decent-functioning brain cell would realise that the best time to design a new flag would be if and when we decide to become a republic. Redesigning a flag at the moment is a meaningless exercise [...]

President Barack Obama sent Congress his new budget overnight, a plan that forecasts the government spending a record US$1.66 trillion ($2.37 trillion) more than it takes in through taxes.
1.66 TRILLION deficit in a single year…

What an interesting bunch of reactions to the Government providing $2.6 million worth of scholarships to allow students from low-income families to attend a private school. The Herald headline gives the initial flavour of envy:
$2.6m for posh-school entry under fire as elitist
What exactly is a “posh” school? I am familiar with a number of Christian [...]

I see John Minto is up to his old tricks again. He has organised a “protest” of less than a dozen people to demonstrate outside of the ASB Classic tennis tournament. Only this was not a peaceful protest, this was a Minto special. Armed with megaphones, they proceeded to make unmitigated nuisances of themselves by [...]

In a fine example of badly thought-out interfering law, Labour legislated work breaks last year, causing enormous difficulty for small businesses with low-levels of staff. The most obvious example were the solo air-traffic controllers at places like Invercargill who were suddenly obliged to leave their screens unattended (or find another fully-qualified air traffic controller to [...]
