Budget Summary

It seems that all the parties have produced mini budgets over the past couple of weeks, presumably to steal the thunder from National’s budget.

Slim pickings there, then.

As a service for those with little time for politics, the MacDoctor provides a brief summary of the various “budgets”:

National: The “Nero” Budget

Fiddle a bit here, fiddle around there and if things get hot we’ll fiddle everywhere – At least they are not planning on burning Christians at their circus.

MacDoctor wonders: What is the exact purpose of changing SOEs to Quangos?

Verdict: Snore.

Labour: The Robin Hood budget

We’ll take from those who don’t vote for us and give it to those who do.

MacDoctor Wonders: If raising the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour is such a good idea, why wasn’t it done while the economy was booming?

Verdict: The invisible man delivers the invisible budget

Greens: The Druid budget

We’ll take money from the bad people who make profits and hurt Gaia. Then we will cast it over the ashes of Christchurch while dancing naked round a maypole in an ancient fertility rite. And Christchurch will rise miraculously again from the ashes…

MacDoctor Wonders: Actually MacDoctor doesn’t wonder anything. He has just visualised Sue Moroney doing the above. GAAAAAAAAA, my eyes!

Verdict: Disturbingly, Russell makes more coherent sense than Goff.

Mana Party: Chairman Hone’s 5 year plan

We will take money from the mofo’s and distribute it to Hone and Hone’s friends. For trips to Paris. Or Australia.

MacDoctor Wonders: If Hone’s New Transaction Tax will be in addition to income tax or replace it? I think we all know the answer to that one.

Verdict: There’s one for you, nineteen for me – cause I’m the taxmaaaan..

Maori Party, The Peter Done party and Winston First: The Grunt budget

Snort, snort, slurp, gobble gobble gobble.

MacDoctor Wonders: Whether these piggies would make nice bacon.

Verdict: So much troughing, so little time to trough..

Act: The Axe Murderer Budget

  • Axe murder? please.

How about the only budget that respects basic economics – no, more than that, basic arithmetic?

more like the debt collector budget – we’ve run up billions and billions on stuff we can’t afford, and now its time to pay it all back

  • pretty fair all round assessments, but how will it all stack up when the Greeks have defaulted, followed by the Italians, the Spaniards holding on by the skin of their teeth, the Irish on the verge of begging to become part of the UK, the Euro teetering on the Brink, and the US contemplating QE3?
Will the IMF / World bank foreclose on us too?
Will we be forced to sell 100% of the electricity generators and Air NZ to repay debt?

  • Hahaha, I really enjoyed this post. Its not often that I really enjoy one of your posts, as I tend to agree and disagree with your philosphies in about equal doses – but this time you are certainly spot on from my perspective.
