Just One More Bite… (Updated)

I see Judith Tizard is keeping us all waiting until tomorrow for her big announcement as to whether she will be returning to the political trough. Like there is any suspense here. The woman is an inveterate trougher and simply could not help herself. Her initial response was the somewhat flimsy excuse that she had not made her valedictory speech. That was indication enough that she wanted another go on the taxpayer’s teat. Add the fact that Darren Hughes seems to have taken an eternity to actually resign, giving Tizard plenty of time to come up with more convincing excuses, and you have a virtual certainty that she will be back.

I did wonder if Hughes’ tardiness was deliberate – a kind of gently malicious utu for Goff’s bumbling mishandling of the situation. After all, the only real reason why Hughes is having to resign is that the Thrill of Phil couldn’t manage his way out of a wet paper bag.

Additional:

And it seems that the MacDoctor has been uncharitable to Ms. Tizard who has managed to refrain from another turn at the trough. The MacDoctor is most happy to be wrong in this instance and apologises to Ms. Tizard for misjudging her.

  • By law she is entitled to the seat. It’s a result of the stupid MMP system.

The thing is if she doesn’t take it and the seat is taken up by Louisa Wall then National party hacks will be going on about Labour subverting MMP to get their favored candidate in. We have already heard a bit of this already.

Personally I couldn’t give a stuff whoever’s bum ends up in Parliament – Labour’s bloody useless and National is only marginally better

  • And yet Tizard could still play a decisive role if she returns. Its still Clark’s Party and with Hughes gone Judith is HC’s right bower. JT has no other loyalties but to Clark, and could provide the numbers from the left and women’s cartel to determine how the election is fought and the shape of the aftermath.

She has nothing to lose and even have a warm red glow by being on a mission from Helen.

  • One is left wondering how we arrived in the situation where so many that Labour thought would make good MPs are now now wanted.

  • Wrong again huh?

Right – and that’s the real point:

if Phil has stood Hughes down from Whip & Front Bench as soon as he heard the news, Hughes would have stayed in Parliament at least until the police report came i n – and perhaps toughed it out and been back on David Parker’s opposition front bench after the next election.
