Yes, It is the time for reviews of the past year, the perennial favorite of tired journalists the world over. Like me, they knocked this together in mid-December and timed it to drop into whatever publication they owed a column to. Just as I did last year, I thought you might like to have a nice succinct summary instead of the inflated ramblings of journos who have to fill column inches. In order to be different, I shall review the year as a series of awards.

The Robert Mugabe award for honesty in politics goes to Philip Field, but Winston Peters gets a lingering mention…
The Do as I say Not as I Do award goes to Bill English for frugality above and beyond the call of Wellington.
The Almost Deadly Plague award was taken by Mexico, with honorable mention to the US
The Solo Parent of the Year award was won jointly by Peter Dunne and Jim Anderton
The Heightened Disillusionment award goes to President Obama for services to the teleprompter industry
The Sad Wally award goes to Gordon Brown for reasons best not explored.
The Looks Best in a Panda Suit award goes to Howard Broad for amazingly keeping his job…
It is hard to imagine 2010 could be any weirder that 2009 but, having said that…
