The Thrill Fades

I see the thrill of Phil is fading fast. The latest Colmar Brunton poll sees him sliding down four points to 5%. That’s barely above the margin of error. I don’t think I recall even Bill English ever dipping below double figures in a Colmar Brunton poll. And Labour is now on 31%, which is about where Bill had National in 2002. This does not bode well for all those new Labour List MPs.

Admittedly, this poll ran over a time when it appears Goff was hiding, or something. He was hardly in the media except to suggest that he was going to abandon standard monetary policy. Hardly conducive to reassuring people that he is an alternative prime minister in waiting. The next poll will pick up on his imitation-of-Don-Brash speech. Not that I think this will make any difference at all to his ratings. There cannot be more than a couple of hundred people in New Zealand stupid enough to believe that Goff and Labour would pander less to Maori interests than National. All Goff has done is alienate Maori voters still further, with no real potential for voter gains elsewhere to offset loss of Maori votes.

Frankly, I expect the next Colmar Brunton poll to be worse for Labour than this one. Unless they jail Bill English for parking on a dotted yellow line.

  • Not only is Goff starting to SOUND like Winston Peters, he’s starting to POLL like him! Oh dear; how sad; never mind. Nothing to see here; move on …..

  • No, wrong poll. Too early to tell. I think Goff expressed a lot of what Kiwis are thinking, especially as Key whimped out on Hone. This will be the turning point for National, bet next year their high poll rating slides, especailly as Key is seen as being more and more Left, and less and less right!

  • Pffffttt. “wrong poll” statistical blip , rogue result. Tui moment.
Seriously, I hope Keys ratings do slip. Otherwise he’ll have to offer Labour places on the National list to get a token opposition.
