Man marries virtual girlfriend
“In a bizarre story reminiscent of the film Lars and the Real Girl, the man, known by his nickname SAL9000, fell in love with a fictional character from the Nintendo DS “love simulator” Love Plus.
“Popular in Japan’s geek subculture, the game invites players to pick a girlfriend and then challenges them to woo her by taking her out on “dates” and perform boyfriend duties such as saying “I love you” 100 times into the handheld games console.
“The most successful lotharios can even give their virtual love interest a kiss by literally kissing the DS’s touch screen.
“But that wasn’t enough for SAL9000, who wedded Nene Anegasaki in an official-looking but not legally binding reception in Tokyo on Sunday.”
SAL9000 – the (sane) computer in 2010. Do we see a subplot opening here? Will SAL9000 attempt to join his virtual bride in cyberspace in 2010 as in the (bad) movie Lawnmower Man.
Actually the story is more reminiscent of the plot in William Gibson’s Mona Lisa Overdrive, where a man marries a virtual woman only to have her “create” herself physically – in several million copies – at the end of the book.
Question: If he erases her from his hard drive when he finds himself a “real” girl, will that be counted as a divorce, or a murder?

Marriage is a Holy Mystery given to us by God.
Because of this you know who tries to destroy it and has had some major success in this area.
This type of story, which is very sad if you think about it, is part of the ongoing assault. It is a deception, it is vaguely amusing but it makes marriage look trivial and cheap instead of Holy.

Its worth talking about these things but lets not forget the real origin of this stuff nor what the long term consequences of these “marriages” will probably mean for these sad sad people.
