Just makes me angry when better care could have prevented it all!

I don’t disagree about the funding issue. Unfortunately, what happens when you play to the media instead of addressing the clinical issues is that you get a response from the politicians that is wildly inappropriate and addresses only the “newsworthy” portion. Politicians instinctively do the most politically favourable thing.

By emphasizing numbers of stillbirths, instead of the clinical problems behind those stillborn children who could have been saved, the politicians will attempt a global response like a registry of stillbirths, instead of a specific response like research into the causes of preventable stillbirths.

Did you ever consider that the comparison was more to shock? I don’t think its misrepresented! There are an alarming number of stillbirth’s nowadays and we live in modern medicine! A lot of it is down to mis communication and human error! Which is just plain WRONG! There SHOULD be more funding avail to get to the bottom of it! Most of the time the medical professionals are just too busy to really listen! I have had a stillborn, and many others like me have had one due to a system that has failed us! Maybe research is the key! Maybe it will lead to realising that our health system is UNDERFUNDED as well!!!! We NEED more care during pregnancy and it needs to be funded better! Not just wait until a women has a stillbirth and THEN care for her! Maybe Cindy Farquhar’s quote will prompt others to pay attention, like our fat lazy politicians that spend taxpayer money on their happy holidays!

Thirty two dead babies is indeed a tragedy.

Do you know how many babies are survive with disabilities, physical or intellectual, as a result of problems during delivery?

Sadly, we don’t collect these stats at the moment, HP.
