There was (is?) a Wellington urologist, notorious for attending to his public hospital on-call responsibilities from the slopes of Ruapehu. Unfortunately his registrars adopted the same cavalier approach to patients, and were very often unobtainable in those pre cell-phone days.

Your entire post would have been equally plausible had you substituted his name for Bhatia’s, so I think that the problem is general amongst our colleagues, and not something confined to rural/regional areas, or to FMGs.

I have heard that urologists in general are a breed apart…

bhatia saved my fathers life. yes he is an arrogant son of a bitch. but he was once a great surgeon. that is how i will always think if him.

I think that much of the sadness of this episode is that Sajan Bhatia was once a fine urologist…

And not to forget his position on the Board of Southland District Health Board. My recollection was his election to this role was based solely on his intention to remove the (then) CEO of the DHB (who had forced Bhatia's resignation).

Yes, indeed. Bhatia's entire motivation for getting elected onto the board was to stick it to Gershu Paul. However, the fact that the people of Southland voted him there says more about them , than it does about Bhatia...
