Just a Pinch of Salt
Heh. The editorial in the Herald today is Uptake of fluorescent bulbs salt in Labour’s wounds. The editor gleefully tells us that 80% of households now have at least one energy-efficient fluorescent lightbulb. Apparently there was no need for the ill-conceived ban on incandescent light-bulbs that Labour tried to perpetrate upon us right before the election. This should also be a warning to the legislators of Europe who are currently passing laws banning incandescent bulbs – people do not like being told what to do – and there is no need to do it.
If the arguments for something stack up, eventually the public will get behind it. Outright bans are likely to provoke only resentment and avoidance.
