That is the death-toll so far from the bush fires in Victoria. Like all natural disasters, it is horrible beyond imagining. It is a sobering reminder that man’s seeming control over nature is entirely illusory. But what is truly frightening is not the ferocity of the disaster nor the extent of it. What is truly frightening is that it may have been started deliberately. What is scarier still is that the fire-starters are either evil (Osama-Bin-Laden-type evil) or stupefyingly dumb. And I am not sure which is scarier.
Anyway, I want to join with my fellow bloggers in urging my readers to donate to the Red Cross fund, if you haven’t already done so. And join me in prayer for the people who are grieving, the homeless and the safety of the fire fighters and the people still in the path of the fires.

I dont think they are ‘evil’.
I think it was just a stupid prank gone horribly wrong.
I still think they should have the book thrown at them……no one plays with fire in the victorian bush without expecting something like this to happen
Agreed. Except that I think “stupid” is far too kind…
